Towards Zero Waste
Launched in 2005, the Victorian Government's Towards Zero Waste Strategy is a call to action for all Victorians to minimize the amount of waste that we generate and maximize opportunities for recovering materials.
The strategy sets four statewide targets for waste reduction, resource recovery and littering, and specific targets and actions for Victoria's municipal and business sectors to deliver more sustainable use of resources by 2014. This assessment reports on Victoria's progress towards zero waste for the 2004-05 year.
Summary of results
55% of all Victoria's solid waste was recycled in 2004-05
Victoria's municipal and commercial & industrial sectors exceeded their 2004-05 resource recovery targets
Victoria is on track to meet Towards Zero Waste targets by 2014
