Fully commingled recycling is the preferred method for household and commercial recycling Australia wide .Fully commingled recycling takes all recyclables such as Paper, Cardboard ,Plastic Containers , Aluminium & Steel Cans and Glass Bottles and Jars . Recyclables are placed into a single bin, collected weekly or fortnightly for households and businesses..

This system has proven safer for collectors , increased recycling rates and lowering costs . By introducing one recycling bin , the participation rates have increased by more than 20%.

Once collected, material is transported by councils or contracted collectors to a Materials Recovery Facility or MRF such as SKM Coolaroo plant, one of the countey's biggest Fully Commingled facilities.

A combination of sorting processes separates the different materials by size, weight, air, magnetic properties, non-magnetic properties, optical sorting and manual sorting. SKM can process over 50 tonnes per hour.
